"We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them" - Albert Einstein
One of the challenges with strategy development is that you are developing something for implementation over the next 30 years or so when the world and transport will have changed. It is difficult to remember that the internet and worldwide web was only created in 1990. Our philosophy is that strategy development should “test & challenge” perceptions and not rule anything out in the beginning. Strategies must be innovative but at the same time deliverable, affordable and value for money whilst ensuring that they can be responsive to change over time. Delivering successful strategies has to start from understanding the problem you are trying to solve and establishing the objectives that need to be met.
We are strong believers that transport, land use and the environment should be considered in an integrated and holistic manner to ensure that strategies will deliver sustainable and liveable cities & communities. This broad appreciation of the issues combined with our extensive knowledge had enabled us to deliver leading edge strategies in the UK and overseas. The same skill set combined with the broad industry understanding is invaluable in undertaking Peer Reviews & “critical friend” roles. Most recently Michael has been undertaking Peer Reviews on the development of the Guanajuato railway in Mexico and critical friend on the Cambridgeshire Road Pricing project.
